Word Feast is thrilled to offer a fiction writing workshop with award-winning short fiction writer David Huebert, offering writers a fresh perspective on the power of “character” in their work.
This hands-on fiction writing workshop will explore the craft of character building as an alternative to the conflict-driven model of fiction writing.
The workshop will consist of a theoretical overview, creative exercises, and a gift bag of tricks. Bring your favourite bag and/or special items you like to carry.
Required Reading: The Carrier Bag Theory of Character by Ursula K. Leguin (link to text will be provided to registrants).

The 2020-2021 Writer-in Residence at The University of New Brunswick, David Huebert’s fiction was the winner of the 2016 CBC Short Story Prize, a finalist for the 2020 Journey Prize, and a National Magazine Award nominee in 2018 and 2019. His fiction debut, Peninsula Sinking, won a Dartmouth Book Award and was runner-up for the Danuta Gleed Literary Award. A new story collection, Chemical Valley, will be published by Biblioasis in fall 2021.

I tried unsuccessfully to register for David Huebert’s workshop May 07, 1-3. My own fault. Waited until the 11 th hour. Would love to have learned from his Character workshop. If it is ever offered again please notify me. I am registered with Word Feast but pertinent info repeated below. Please keep me in mind.
